International Prospect Prospect Watch: Wang Po-Jung, Chinese Taipei – Looking for a potential prospecting opportunity with big upside? Look no further than Wang Po-Jung of Chinese Taipei. He is considered to be one of the greatest hitting talents Taiwan has ever produced. He plays for the Lamigo Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). As a rookie in 2016, he led the league in hits with 200. He was the league’s first player to accomplish the feat. He also finished with a lofty batting average of .414.

In 2017, he picked right up where he left off. He finished with a remarkable slash line of .402 BA/.488 OBP/.694 SLG. According to his Wikipedia profile (see link below), “Wang models his game after American MLB stars Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, and hopes to follow fellow Taiwanese star Dai-Kang Yang’s path to professional baseball in Japan’s NPB.”

Po-Jung was denied the chance to be seen by a wider audience in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Politics reared its ugly head resulting in the boycotting of the tournament by his CPBL team (Lamigo). It’s a real shame because the international exposure would have done wonders for his career path. It would have also helped American baseball card collectors understand why Wang Po-Jung’s autographed cards can routinely sell in the $500-$1,000 range.

See for yourself, here is a look at some of his recently completed secondary market sales on eBay.
